- Democrat U.S. Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) was caught on video pulling his mask down to sneeze into his hand while on the House floor.
- Impeachment manager Cicilline was taking part in the Democrats’ effort to impeach President Donald Trump for a second time.
- The Democrat was sat behind Rep. Yvette Clark (D-NY), who was speaking at the time.
- He then pulled down his mask and sneezed into his left hand.
- Just moments later, he left his seat.
- Upon his return, he put the same hand he used to sneeze on Clark’s shoulder.
- Democrats have called for financial penalties against congress members who fail to wear a mask on the floor.
- Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) blamed Republicans for contracting the coronavirus and called for “serious fines” for those who refuse to wear one.
- “Additionally, any Member who refuses to wear a mask should be immediately removed from the floor by the Sergeant at Arms,” she said.
- A $1,000-a-day fine was proposed by Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) for members failing to comply.
- This is not the first time Democrats have been caught flouting their own rules.Last year, former Vice President Joe Biden was caught in a similar incident where he pulled down his protective mask down to cough into his hand.
- Biden faced fire across social media for flouting basic hygiene rules.
- In September, Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein faced backlash for not wearing a mask while at an airport just months after she demanded in a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration that “all airport and airline employees and passengers” wear masks.
