A skit exploding across social media is ripping into the real estate industry, and it’s hitting a nerve. In the video, a homebuyer slowly realizes something about the process that makes it look suspicious. Every time she tries to make an offer, the real estate agent suddenly claims there’s “another bid.” But when the buyer asks basic questions like who the bidder is, what they offered, or if they’re even real, the response is always the same: “I can’t say.” Then the realization hits. If the price goes up… the agent’s commission goes up too. Seconds later the house is “sold” and the real estate agent walks away with a $50,000 commission. Now the internet is arguing. Some say agents protect buyers through complex deals. Others say it’s just the most expensive middleman job in America. Be honest: are realtors worth it… or is the whole system a scam?
- It’s true. Most are terrible and lazy but when you find a good one they are worth it. We own rental property and flip houses. Took years to find a good one but we love her. – Derrick Evans
- I love how every comment arguing for realtors are realtors or people in the space. The National Association of Realtors is the largest lobbying group in America. Just google it. Bigger than “Big Pharma” and “Big Oil”….by a lot. That’s how you know its BS – James G
- Everyone should spend a year selling real estate. You have no idea how much goes into selling a property. And that commission is split 25% each to buyers agent, listing agent, and each of their brokers that they are required to work under. Yet you’re basically an independent contractor. You pay for all your own supplies, signs, gas, letterhead, cards, MLS access, local Realtor’s Association dues, etc. It’s also true that realtors cannot tell you who or how much someone else is offering. I tried it for a year. It was the most expensive job I’ve ever had. BINU
- 6% off the proceed of the sale of the largest purchase of your life, for some douche to drive around in a Range Rover and play telephone – I think not. Realtors will be replaced by AI and it can’t come soon enough BD
- A gap in this analysis is people. Over 50% of adults (16–74) read below a 6th-grade level. Yet we’re talking about $300k+ transactions with complex contracts, CMAs, and negotiations. Tech will help, but real estate will likely stay hybrid. Some can go solo, but many will still need an Agent, maybe don’t use a bad agent? – RC
- Scam. They literally take a percentage of your equity for doing nothing or very little. You bust your ass on the house. Put money in updates and decor to make it beautiful and gsin sweat equity Why are they permitted to take a percentage of my greatest investment? It should be Flat rate With Zillow and Redfin etc… buyers find their own properties to see – ITX
