When the fate of Europe was on the line at the 1683 Battle of Vienna, the “Holy League” formed a powerful rescue force. Led by King Jan III Sobieski, this relief army consisted of forces from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Habsburg Monarchy (Austria), and several German states, including Bavaria, Saxony, Franconia, and Swabia. Together, they launched the largest cavalry charge in history, spearheaded by the terrifying Polish Winged Hussars.
