Dude should NOT get involved.

If inmate got whacked was because he was doing crap or running his mouth.

If you get involved and stand for a bad inmate “Because it’s teh right thing to do” what will happen is that rep will follow you with all guards no matter where you go and IF THE INMATE WAS DIRTY (Child molester/Rapist) then you are also now associated with him.

It’s a lose-lose situation.
