The La Palma / Cumbre Vieja eruption is now in its 47th day. Today’s main news is that the intensity of the eruption has now been upgraded from a VEI 2 to a VEI 3. Although I had suspected this to be the case since October 19th, this was merely confirmed today. Also, a third magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit the island. These strong earthquakes (M 4.2+) are occurring deep underneath the island, indicating the movement of new magma into the volcano.
