The former acting chief of staff of the White House Mick Mulvaney resigned from his current position as the special envoy for Northern Ireland, citing the destruction of the US Capitol on Wednesday.
He issued his resignation by phone to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
Mulvaney told news outlet CNBC that he could not stay there after yesterday referring the violent incident.
He said,” You can’t look at that yesterday and think I want to be a part of that in any way, shape, or form.”
Melania Trump’s chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham; White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews; White House Social Secretary Rickie Niceta; National Security Council’s senior director for Russian and European Affairs Ryan Tully; and Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger also have resigned.
