- Powell’s term as Fed Chair ends, but his term as Board Governor runs to 2028. Governors can stay on the Board after their Chair term expires ,. that’s legal and has precedent. Marriner Eccles did it in 1948. “Shadow chair” isn’t a formal role. If Bessent wants him gone, that’s politics. If the concern is Fed independence, public pressure from Treasury cuts both ways. – Global N
