I had a conversation with President Trump right before Independence Day. He made it VERY clear that Iran’s leaders will fold one way or the other: Either they’ll comply, or he’ll continue to bomb them until they’re all dead. Not their bridges or infrastructure. The oppressive leadership. Then why push for this MOU? I also asked Trump about that. I’ll let him provide the specifics when the time is right, but I walked away with the impression that it’s a balancing act. The president has told me before, “I will not be Herbert Hoover,” meaning he won’t be the guy who triggers the next worldwide depression. He is deeply aware of the lessons of history, and it sounded like he shifted his economic and military tactics with Iran to avoid that.
