Victor Davis Hanson: The Collapse of Higher Education

“ When I started in 1984 at Cal State Fresno, I had really good students. When I finished 20 years later, I couldn’t even offer a class with the same syllabus. The kids couldn’t do it.” @VDHanson shares stories from decades in higher education and explains why many students arrive on campus unprepared for college-level work. • Here Victor David Hanson tells us in a nutshell why higher education, even in America’s most elite universities, has collapsed. In short, American students, even elite American students, can no longer read. The tragedy is that we have known all along for the past 50 years that our kids are are losing the ability to read, and we have had a detailed roadmap explaining why they can’t read. And how to fix it. Read, for example, the the well-known book Cultural Literacy, written by legendary Uva professor Hirsch first published in the 1980s, and all the other books of Professor Hirsch. All kids have the capacity to Reid well. Why has America refused to learn how to teach them right? The answer is ideology. And the worst offender to fixing the problem has been Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion mind virus that falsely claims inability to read is based on race. This is a lie. And it’s turned real solutions into another race hustle. It’s primary victims. Are everyone in our society. – Reed F
  • 1. Admit unqualified students under DEI/quotas 2. Take their money, scholarships, grants, and loans. 3. Students fail and leave with loan debt on their backs for life and no marketable skills. 4. Virtue signal all the way to the bank. What a racket! If this isn’t RICO, what is? – Dallas S
I was thrust into the position of teaching Composition 101 at UW-Milwaukee while getting an MA in creative writing. No training at all. Just the text. I found no one did the assignments. So I had the kids read the assignment. Most read one word at a time. Made me sad.
