Rural areas may be asked to accommodate more migrants to ensure different regions of the UK share the load on services, a minister has suggested. Home Office minister Robert Jenrick said small towns and rural areas may be asked to house more people crossing the Channel “as long as numbers are so high”. One Tory MP warned about cases making a “complete and utter mockery” of the immigration system, while another asked “when will we push back?” In the Commons, Conservative MP Jonathan Gullis (Stoke-on-Trent North) said hotels in his area are being “dumped on” with migrants by private contractor Serco.
