  • The proposed legislation “creates a path for the majority of the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the country to” get citizenship, she told Univision.
  • The pathway would come in stages “first making them legal permanent residents, a status they could access within a period of eight years,” she said.
  • Harris said Biden will “expand protections” for DACA recipients and said that new policies “will make sure that people receive vaccines regardless of their immigration status.”
  • In terms of the southern border, she said more immigration judges will be hired to address the huge backlog of asylum cases.
  • DACA’s future could be shaped by a court case in Texas, where Texas and other states have said that former President Barack Obama overstepped his constitutional authority by creating the program.
  • Although President Donald Trump lost in his effort to rescind DACA last year, Nina Perales, vice president of litigation at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said this case is different.
  • Either way, the issue of illegal immigrants is likely to end up in the lap of lawmakers.“DACA has to be replaced by a legislative approach,” MALDEF President  Thomas Saenz told the AP.

They need to transition their focus to the inclusion of these groups, rather than suppressing them. If they don’t, say hello to four more years of President Kamala Harris.

  • This is a substantial increase from over the weekend when 6,000 were deployed. The number was increased to a total of 15,000 on Monday.
  • Now, more than 20,000 guardsmen are expected to be armed and patrolling the Capitol grounds. It makes us wonder how large is the threat ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20.
  • Last week, the Associated Press, citing the Secretary of the Army, said National Guard troops in the Washington Metropolitan Area, especially around the Capitol complex, could carry assault rifles and pistols though the decision was under review. 
  • Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told The AP Friday that the military could let guardsmen carry M-4 rifles or 9 mm Berettas in a few days.
  • As we come to find out, on Wednesday morning, CNN’s Josh Replogle reports that “racks upon racks of rifles and pistols” were unloaded from military vehicles and distributed to troops. 
  • Dozens of pictures of guardsmen sleeping inside the Capitol were armed with what appears to be M-4 rifles by their sides. This comes after days of unarmed guardsmen seen around the Capitol earlier this week.
  • This means that the military has given the orders to arm guardsmen ahead of what could be chaos during President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20.We noted this morning that the FBI is racing to track down hardcore insurrectionists that could be preparing for a fight next week.

  • As former Rep. Trey Gowdy put it in December when discussing Swalwell’s Intelligence Committee membership: “There are 230 Democrats and you mean to tell me she cannot find a single one that didn’t date a Chinese spy?”

While some argue about the constitutionality of these rulings, there is little doubt a Democrat-controlled Senate would follow this precedent
  • According to Fox News, McConnell is “done” and “furious with President Trump.” And Axios reports there’s a 50-50 chance the majority leader will vote to convict

  • Considering Republican voter dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership in Congress and in many state positions, the future of the GOP is uncertain. This could be the beginning of the end for the party of Lincoln. Many of President Trump’s supporters are hoping he will begin a third party once out of office.
  • Whatever happens, American voters, including the Kentucky Republicans who helped McConnell sail to an easy reelection, will have to improve their ability to discern between patriots and saboteurs.
