  • The incoming administration also wants to reduce the time it takes to become a citizen to eight years. Right now, the process takes 13 years.
  • “It’s a smarter and much more humane way of approaching immigration,” Harris said.
  • The proposed legislation “creates a path for the majority of the 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the country to” get citizenship, she told Univision.
  • The pathway would come in stages “first making them legal permanent residents, a status they could access within a period of eight years,” she said.
  • Harris said Biden will “expand protections” for DACA recipients and said that new policies “will make sure that people receive vaccines regardless of their immigration status.”
  • In terms of the southern border, she said more immigration judges will be hired to address the huge backlog of asylum cases.
  • DACA’s future could be shaped by a court case in Texas, where Texas and other states have said that former President Barack Obama overstepped his constitutional authority by creating the program.
  • Although President Donald Trump lost in his effort to rescind DACA last year, Nina Perales, vice president of litigation at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said this case is different.
  • Either way, the issue of illegal immigrants is likely to end up in the lap of lawmakers.“DACA has to be replaced by a legislative approach,” MALDEF President  Thomas Saenz told the AP.

  • Maryland Senate President Bill Ferguson (D) and House Speaker Adrienne Jones (D) told The Daily Record that they were not aware of the governor’s condition before his announcement.
  • “I’ve beat this type of cancer before, and I’m feeling great—thanks for all the well wishes,” Hogan tweeted.
  • Hogan had basal-cell and squamous-cell skin cancer back in 2018. In 2015, Hogan had B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma that required months of chemotherapy.

  • Many among the Republican party have been hesitant to accept the youth movement, preferring to keep control of the party among the “old white men” as the Left often likes to say.
  • There are a lot of lessons that the Republicans will learn in the coming years. The first one that they need to learn is that they need to move beyond their aged platform. They need to transition their focus to the inclusion of these groups, rather than suppressing them. If they don’t, say hello to four more years of President Kamala Harris.

  • This is a substantial increase from over the weekend when 6,000 were deployed. The number was increased to a total of 15,000 on Monday.
  • Now, more than 20,000 guardsmen are expected to be armed and patrolling the Capitol grounds. It makes us wonder how large is the threat ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20.
  • Last week, the Associated Press, citing the Secretary of the Army, said National Guard troops in the Washington Metropolitan Area, especially around the Capitol complex, could carry assault rifles and pistols though the decision was under review. 
  • Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told The AP Friday that the military could let guardsmen carry M-4 rifles or 9 mm Berettas in a few days.
  • As we come to find out, on Wednesday morning, CNN’s Josh Replogle reports that “racks upon racks of rifles and pistols” were unloaded from military vehicles and distributed to troops. 
  • Dozens of pictures of guardsmen sleeping inside the Capitol were armed with what appears to be M-4 rifles by their sides. This comes after days of unarmed guardsmen seen around the Capitol earlier this week.
  • This means that the military has given the orders to arm guardsmen ahead of what could be chaos during President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20.We noted this morning that the FBI is racing to track down hardcore insurrectionists that could be preparing for a fight next week.

  • The Left will go after Trump with endless lawsuits. They will also attempt to put him in prison and any of his supporters who do anything they don’t like.

  • More broadly, among all voters surveyed, 48 percent say they are “less likely” to vote for a member of Congress who votes to impeach Trump.

Jim McGovern (D-MA), chair of the House Rules Committee, told his colleagues that Trump effectively “organized” and “incited” the protests that occurred despite the fact that the commander-in-chief repeatedly called for peace and never once instructed or encouraged supporters to engage in lawless acts.
  • Nearly three-quarters of all voters “agree that efforts by Pelosi and the Democrats to try to impeach the President after [President-elect] Joe Biden is sworn in would be politically motivated to prevent the President from running again, stripping his Secret Service protection, and preventing him from having a Presidential Library,” per the memo.
  • A majority of voters, 65 percent, say Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) are “making this worse and keeping the country divided” by continuing to attack Trump.
  • At least five GOP lawmakers have publicly expressed their support for impeachment, including Reps. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), John Katko (R-NY), Fred Upton (R-MI), Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), and Liz Cheney (R-WY).
